In 2006, a panel of experts convened by the National Institutes of Health concluded that there wasn’t enough good data to answer the question "do multivitamins work to prevent disease?" One of the latest and largest studies, published in 2009, tracked the health of about 77,700 people aged 50-70 for five years, comparing those who took supplements with those who didn’t. “Taking a multivitamin had no effect at all" on participants' death rate during the study, says epidemiologist Emily White, Ph.D., of Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
